We rent both villas together in the summer, but in the quieter season we are happy to rent one for a smaller party and shut the other one offering space and privacy. Changeover is on a Saturday. Single villa bookings do not apply from June to August. We are flexible outside this peak period but notify us in the enquiry form on the website www.lazahurda.com.
Both villas have three bedrooms, a comfortable lounge with sofas, dining table, outdoor seating, the swimming pool, access to the indigenous garden, and a terrace with views of the sea in the distance. We offer free wi-fi access to guests for web surfing and emails. A boules court attracts the more competitive holidaymaker.
The kitchen is always the heart of the home and is well-equipped with cooking and serving facilities, a gas oven cooker and plentiful cutlery and crockery inside. Outdoor cooking on a gas barbeque is popular with guests. Enjoy your al fresco meals under grape vines on the terrace, a La Zahúrda favourite. Slumber after a meal at the swimming pool which is adjacent to the dining table. Or play boules at our court in the garden.
Lovers of flora and fauna may indulge their zeal. Fresh pink and white almond blossoms in the spring, and the sight of figs, lemons and oranges in the winter ignite the senses. Andalucía is host to a very rich variety of wildflowers in widely diverse habitats, some species growing nowhere else. Spices include wild tulip, periwinkle, red berried mistletoe, the giant orchid, two-leaved gennaria and cotton lavender, many of which can be found on our property and on the surrounding hills. Elm, fig and wild olive trees dot the hills. We encourage wildflowers to grow around our trees, which is not typical in the region, but it promotes birdlife.
Sunrise is a star attraction. Light emerges like a beacon over the mountains, stirring the soul as you sip coffee on the balcony. Much later, sunset dapples the landscape as the shadows move over the mountains. This is a photographer’s delight.Bt
La Zahúrda has spectacular views of the La Axarquia countryside and across to the Mediterranean sea. From a conical hilltop guests experience the rustic feel of the villas and enjoy painting, yoga, cycling, swimming, sun bathing, walking and home cooking in fresh mountain air surrounded by a kaleidoscope of flowers, the lively scent of wild fennel, and tweeting birds.
There are two houses on the property. The casa is the main house from which you enter as you alight the stairs from the driveway. It features a wide balcony overlooking the countryside and in certain light all the way to Africa. There is a large lounge with an open fireplace for entertaining which opens onto a lovely bedecked terrace where guests can comfortably sit and enjoy a fabulous meal.
The casita is the smaller house at the bottom of the stairs from the casa. It has a homely feel. The lounge is cozy and the dining table opens out onto a terrace with views of the garden and the mountains, often dappled in sunlight as the shadows create changing patterns all day.
